How to set parental controls on Xbox 360 1. With the Xbox off, press the eject button to eject the disk and guarantee that you go to the main menu. 2. Take out the disc and close the disc tray. 3. On the controller press the RB button (highlighted in pink below) on the top of it until you get to the system screen.
For now on you will be using the plus shaped direction pad or left joy stick for all navigation. The green A button to select something, and the red B button to go back. 4. Select to Family Settings. 5. Select Console Controls Here you can set many different settings. Limit what rating the game or video can have, turn off access to Xbox Live, and then we have the Family Timer. 6. Select Family Timer Here you can select if you want to make the limits daily or weekly. I know I would personally set it for daily. If your child goes over the time, then when their timer runs out they can always come to you to add more time to their console. Your options range from 5 minutes to 12 hours and 45 minutes. If you don't let them play anymore, and they restart the console, then they only get 2 minutes of time, which is only enough to get back into a game, not enough to make any progress. So their gaming day is done with until you say otherwise. 7. When you are done setting the parent controls, click continue. 8. Now go down to Set Pass Code. This lets you set a password to make it so that your child, can't change the settings. (Write this down somewhere or maybe even email it to yourself and put it in a special email folder that will save it for you just in case.) 9. After you set the Pass Code you have to select a question and put in an answer just in case you forget or loss the Pass Code. 10. Now just go down to Done in the Set Pass Code screen. 11. Now do the same on the Console Controls screen. 12. You are done! You can surprise your kid by putting the disc back in and turning off the console. Just be sure to talk with them about why you chose to do this, what they could do to get the restriction removed, and other information. Grades are normally the reason for doing this, but there are other reasons as well. Have some family events planned, like going bowling, playing board games, and pretty much having a family night if possible, so the child will have something to fill that gap other than homework if need. |
